Service 04 · Mulching
Mulching that finishes the garden and helps it through summer
A fresh layer of mulch makes garden beds look finished and can help soil hold moisture and slow weed growth through Adelaide’s dry months.
We weed and prepare beds first, then spread mulch at a depth suited to the planting, keeping it clear of stems, trunks and house walls. Tell us whether you would like us to source mulch or spread mulch you already have.

Good to know
Choosing a mulch
Different mulches suit different gardens. We can talk through options for your beds, or work with a product you have already chosen.
Timing
Mulching before the weather warms up gives beds the most benefit going into summer, but it can be worthwhile at any time of year.
Weeds first
Mulch spread over established weeds will not stop them for long. Preparing beds properly is part of the job.

Mulching questions
General FAQsDo you supply the mulch?
Mulch supply can be included where agreed, or we can spread mulch you have bought yourself. Let us know your preference when you request a quote.
How deep should mulch be?
It depends on the mulch and the planting. As a general guide, a layer of several centimetres is common, kept away from stems and trunks. We will recommend a depth for your beds.
Will mulch stop all weeds?
No mulch stops every weed, but a good layer over well-prepared beds can noticeably slow them down. Occasional weeding still helps.
